Song Sheet March 9th
Entrance Hymn: Lord Who Throughout These Forty Days
Lord, Who throughout these forty days For us didst fast and pray, Teach us with you to mourn our sins And close by you to stay.
As you with Satan did contend, And did the victory win, O give us strength in you to fight, In you to conquer sin.
As you did hunger bear, and thirst, So teach us, gracious Lord, To die to self, and always live By your most holy Word.
And through these days of penitence, And through your passiontide, For evermore in life and death, O Lord, with us abide.
Abide with us that when this life Of suffering is past, An Easter of unending joy We may attain at last.
Offertory: Jesus, Meek and Humble
Jesus, meek and humble, heaven’s gift to earth, word from word among us, spoken from the first. Song of our salvation, rising from the fall. Jesus, meek and humble, heaven’s hope for all.
Jesus, meek and humble teaching by the shore, casting nets to gather broken, lame, and poor. Living bread you offer, hungry we receive. Jesus, meek and humble, teach us to believe.
Jesus, meek and humble, mercy born of pain on the Cross we fashioned from our sin and shame, God himself providing Lamb and sacrifice. Jesus, meek and humble, in this death is life.
Communion Hymn: Hosea
Come back to me with all your heart. Don’t let fear keep us apart. Trees do bend, though straight and tall; so must we to others’ call.
(Refrain)Long have I waited for your coming home to me and living deeply our new life.
The wilderness will lead you to your heart where I will speak. Integrity and justice with tenderness you shall know.(To Refrain)
You shall sleep secure with peace; faithfulness will be your joy. (To Refrain)
Recessional Hymn: Forty Days and Forty Nights
Forty days and forty nights you were fasting in the wild; Forty days and forty nights tempted, and yet undefiled.
Shall not we your sorrow share and from worldly joys abstain, fasting with unceasing prayer, strong with you to suffer pain?
Then if Satan on us press, flesh or spirit to assail, victor in the wilderness, grant we may not faint nor fail!
So shall we have peace divine: Holier gladness ours shall be; round us, too, shall angels shine, such as served you faithfully.
Jesus, meek and humble, by the break of day heaven now awaking, love has made a way. Light from light embracing all that once was dark. Jesus, meek and humble, lead us to your heart.
