Song Sheet December 8th

Entrance Hymn: On Jordan’s Bank

On Jordan's bank the Baptist's cry announces that the Lord is nigh. Awake and hearken, for he brings glad tidings of the King of kings!

Then cleansed be every life from sin: make straight the way for God within, prepare we in our hearts a home, where such a mighty guest may come..

For thou art our salvation, Lord, our refuge and our sure reward; Shine forth and let thy light restore our souls to heav’nly grace once more.

All praise, eternal son, to thee whose advent set thy people free, whom with the Father we adore and Holy Spirit evermore.

Offertory Hymn: Comfort, Comfort O My People

Comfort, comfort, O my people, speak of peace, now says our God; Comfort those who sit in darkness, mourning ‘neath their sorrows’ load. Speak unto Jerusalem of the peace that waits for them; Tell of all the sins I cover, and that warfare now is over.

Hark, the voice of one who’s crying in the desert far and near, bidding all to full repentance since the kingdom now is here. O that warning cry obey! Now prepare for God away; Let the valleys rise to meet him and the hills bow down to greet him.

O make straight what long was crooked, make the rougher places plain; Let your hearts be true and humble, as befits his holy reign. For the glory of the lord now o’er earth is shed abroad; and all flesh shall see the token that his word is never broken.

Communion Hymn: I Received the Living God

(Refrain) I received the living God, and my heart is full of joy. I received the living God, and my heart is full of joy.

Jesus said: I am the bread kneaded long to give you life; you who will partake of me need not ever fear to die. (To refrain)

Jesus said: I am the way, and my Father longs for you; so I come to bring you home to be one with us anew. (To refrain)

Jesus said: I am the truth; come and follow close to me. You will know me in your heart, and my word shall make you free. (To refrain)

Jesus said: I am the life far from whom no thing can grow, but receive this living bread, and my Spirit you shall know. (To refrain)

Recessional Hymn: People Look East

People, look east. The time is near Of the crowning of the year. Make your house fair as you are able, Trim the hearth and set the table. People, look east and sing today: Love, the guest, is on the way.

Furrows, be glad. Though earth is bare, One more seed is planted there: Give up your strength the seed to nourish, That in course the flower may flourish. People, look east and sing today: Love, the rose, is on the way.

Stars, keep the watch when night is dim. One more light the bowl shall brim. Shining beyond the frosty weather, bright as sun and moon together. People, look east, and sing today: Love, the start, is on the way.

Angels, announce on this great feast: Him who cometh from the east. Set every peak and valley humming with the word, the Lord is coming. People, look east, and sing today: Love, the Lord, is on the way.
